It brings together people from different countries, locals, adults and young people to the centre of the city and La Malagueta Beach. On the First Day, when midnight arrives, a magnificent fireworks display gives way to the beginning of the Fair. The best place to enjoy this event is from the port of Málaga. You will be surprised by the music and fireworks, creating a spectacle that you will never forget.
There are 2 events that you can not miss during Feria de Málaga, such as the Pilgrimage to the Church of Santa María de la Victoria and the historic parade!
The Pilgrimage procession takes place on the first Saturday of the Fair (August 12 this year). It st arts at the the City Hall and goes to the Sanctuary of Santa María de la Victoria. It also celebrates the delivery of the flag of the city to the Sanctuary.
The historic parade, on the other hand, is celebrated on Sunday after the last Saturday of Feria de Málaga (August 20 this year), ecreating the entrance of the Catholic Monarchs to Málaga. Usually it begins with the delivery of the keys to the Flagbearer (chosen from the famous people related to the city) in the Plaza de la Aduana and ends at Alcazabilla street.
It is said that Feria de Málaga is divided into 2 Fairs, which take place at the same time in 2 different areas of the city. Traditionally, as in most Andalusian cities, the official fair is held in a large open space, with more than 200 booths where both tourists and locals dance and drink. The owners are usually associations and culture clubs, among others. The main difference from the Feria de Sevilla, is that you can enter there for free, as long as you do not wear a bathing suit or go shirtless! There is also celebrated the Night Fair!
The Day Fair at Feria de Málaga is celebrated on the streets of the center of the city, most of all on Larios street. The best time to visit the city center is from noon until 5pm, as it is the moment when the streets are filled with flamenco dancers, singers, locals and tourists dressed in typical flamenco costumes and you can scent delicious smell of jasmine and tapas. In addition, you can enjoy a glass of refreshing Cartojal, typical sweet wine of Málaga, which advertisment you will see in every corner of the city, along with countless people carrying their own glass as if it was a necklace. If you're not a fan of alcohol, this is the best time to go to you luxury apartment and take a nap. You'll need it to recharge your batteries and enjoy the Night Fair!
