On the occasion of the inauguration of the new headquarters club in Pedralbes, in 1953, Carlos Godó Valls, The Count of Godó, decided to create the celebration of a tournament that collected the sporting ambitions of all the history of the entity. The new competition inherited the seeds of the old International Championships, the great interclubs competitions and the Spring and Autumn Competitions. First disputed in 1953, the history of the Conde de Godó Trophy is united to Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899, the owner and the host of the tournament.
The Conde de Godó Trophy was designed in 1953 by Soler Cabot jewelers. It is made in sterling silver with an approximate weight of 13 kilos, with the base made of American oak. The trophy was completely renovated by J. Roca jewelers, increasing the size of the base to record in it the name of all the winners of the competition.
Over time, the 65th Conde de Godó Trophy has become an emblem of the city of Barcelona and has become not only the most important sporting event held annually, but one of the most resonant social events. The atmosphere of the club makes, precisely, that it is also one of the most prized tournaments for the players of the circuit. From 1968, the tournament acquires the condition of International Championships of Spain.
