Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to one of the greatest circus show! The Figueres International Circus Festival is one of the best events in the world for experiencing up close all the magic of trapeze artists performing pirouettes at great heights; riders performing unbelievable acrobatics on horseback; jugglers with amazing reflexes; tightrope workers defying the laws of physics; prestigious ballet dancers; guaranteed laughs with clowns and many other breathtaking attractions. In total there will be 14 performances for more than 30.000 spectators. Since its creation, this new meeting point has become the European gateway for those artists who want to introduce themselves to the circus industry of Europe.
Figueres is strongly committed to attracting top artists from all over the world to leave us spellbound with memories that will last a lifetime. After the success of its five editions with more than 120.000 spectators, once again Figueres is the scene of the International Circus Festival in Spain. During short period, the festival has been established as one of the main cultural events in Spain, following in the footsteps of other famous circus festivals, such as those of WuQiao, Budapest, Monte Carlo or Paris.
The International Circus Festival Gold Elephant held at Costa Brava was born with the pretention to present in each edition the 22 best attractions ever seen in European circuses. More than 80 artists from 12 countries will compete in front of an international jury composed by 15 important directors and experts from circuses around the world. The two semi-finals (Blue and Red Shows, which are totally different) and the final (Gold Show) will be performed in the new Big Tent, with total visibility (no poles and inclined grandstand) with a capacity for 2.206 spectators, situated in the centre of the Fairgrounds of Figueres.
Throughout the festival, in addition to performing for the general public, the participating artists compete to win the Gold Show (the name of the festival’s grand final) before an international judging panel composed of well-known figures from the circus world.
The Circus in the Spanish State entered a deep crisis at the end of the 70’s: at the same time that the quality shows disappeared, circus became a synonym for banal children’s amusement only. The International Circus Festival Gold Elephant is one of the only current references in our country in terms of maximum quality, and therefore, a show that appeals to all audiences without discrimination of age, race or social status. Figueres is consolidated as one of the European circus capitals inside the world map of great events of the always-fascinating world of the ring.
Building on the success of the previous festivals, the infrastructures are in place to handle a large-scale festival of this nature, to which visitors flock in large numbers.
